Phineas is the main character of FEG. He is a wolf from a northern clan who joined the ranks of the dogs (or knights).

In my fiction "dog" is just a derogatory term for a wolf or other canid that has given up eating flesh to promote peace between all species (yes, it is possible for canids to survive off of alternative sources of protein. Hippies make their pets do it all the time). They act as knights that are in service to the people to protect them from danger. Dog stands for "disciple of Grath" and they are beloved by the common folk but hated by many of their own kind.

Phineas has his own reasons for becoming a dog but mostly keeps to himself. A natural leader he is the captain of his troop and a well known dragon slayer. Stern and quiet, Phineas cares little for worldly pleasures and vices.
