Remember the first Dune movie? Where the junior Navigators wore those floor-length rubber robes? Well, I had a job doing that 12 years ago in Permian Basin near the metropoli of Crane, Andrews, Jal, and No Trees. Astonishingly enough, I was entrusted with millions of gucks’ worth of investors’ livelihoods, navigating a drillstring down to the pay zone everybody knew probably wasn’t going to be there anyway (it never was). Anyhow, my Saga of Disillusionment continued as I discovered that even working 12 hour shifts every day of the year, you can’t hardly break even, much less save money. Once I realized this, I left as quick as I could, thankful that I was able to do so.
P.S. I don’t look like this.
