I've been having fun with this model of Ári on Maya so I thought I'd post up something cool with it ^_^
Still fixing a few rendering and ighting things, but I'll get there in the end, then I can start putting him into videos and such =D
Rendering time was about 2-3 hours with the settings pushed up pretty high. I could go into detail about the settings and such but it'd probably be lost on most people ^^;;

The program doesn't make making this sorta thing easy. So just warning you ahead of time so you don't get your hopes up; it's quite difficult to make really good quality stuff like this regardless of what programs ya use. Takes a lot of hours(days, sometimes weeks) and intimate knowledge of the program.
I'm not trying to turn you down from the idea, just trying to make sure ya aren't getting your hopes up is all.

Just don't expect to be able to create something that looks this good right away. I know what it was like when I first started working with 3d modeling and animation. even after I knew how to use the tool for all the basic things, I still had no clue how to make realistic looking fur like this has, or how to make things with such perfect shape/preportion. I got quite annoyed with myself for not being able to figure it out on my own, even with all the tutorials out there.
I encourage you to explore your interest in this, just I urge you to take it slow and don't run head-first in with excitement. It's a lot harder than these amazing artists make it look. They've had years of experience with the tools and most likely had the proper education (college or university) to teach them how to get this good.
I'm sure you'll do well with time, but I don't want ya to get stressed out or depressed from it like I did.

Well as long as you have it as a hobby that isn't pressing for time, then you should be fine. :)
Me, it's part of a career that's moving faster than I'm comfortable with. Still, I fancy myself an artist because of my drawing skills and my attention to details, so having trouble with making things really that good in 3d was.. stressing for me. I wanted to be good at that so I could go back to putting my attention towards learning to be a good programmer.
Actually, now I start to wonder if my art skills are falling behind my programming skills..
All things with time, I guess.
