I'm posting! I'm still alive, I SWEAR! So, using graduation money (yay) and selling an old drum kit, I managed to get my hands on this beautiful Goldtone EBM-5 Electric Banjo for about half the price of a new one. And this thing is amazing. I learned a new song and I decided I'd upload a little sound test of it. So, I chose a simple bluegrass tune (My Grandfather's Clock) and recorded it under various settings.
First run is just acoustic through a dynamic mic. By itself, this thing sounds like a normal acoustic Banjo, although a little thin sounding since the strings are a lower gauge and the thing doesn't have a true resonator. The second run is at the middle setting, using both pickups equally (one under the head, the other near the neck), plugged directly in to my box and without the microphone. The third and final run is with both the mic and the pickups.
Using just the neck pickup and my Honeytone amp, I can get some pretty decent overdrive out of this thing, and I'd love to try plugging this through distortion pedals and such at some point. Maybe if I get to use some I could learn a rock song and do a cover.
