Trans*: The catch-all term for transgender and transsexual people.

Transgender: When one's gender does not match the gender assigned to them at birth. Such is the case in bio-male women and bio-female men, as well as genderqueer people or intersex people that identify with a binary identity. People that are solely transgender and not transsexual are comfortable with their birth sex, but not their gender role. People who are solely transgender may still seek out hormones and surgery to aid in passing, of course.

Transsexual: When one's mental and psychological sex differs from one's birth sex. Transsexual people feel as if they are in the wrong sex and may or may not seek out medical reassignment.
