Willard, the Borgnine movie that hardly anyone remembers -- this is perfect for FA.

I watched Marty a couple of times since I bought a used copy of it from the Sally Anne about a week ago, and want to show it to a friend, whose life it seems to fictonalize. I never suspected Ernest Borgnine would die pretty much the same moment, astronomically speaking.

His death was reported today on the File770 blog site, one of SF fandom's better sources of news. "Marty" was mentioned, but most of the films cited to Borgnine's credit were later, minor roles in cheezy SF movies. No mention of "All Quiet on the Western Front" alas.

Of course, when I was ten years old, Borgnine was best known as Quentin McHale, of "McHale's Navy, " and foil for Tim Conway. That wasn't mentioned either... thankfully.

Damn! Dominique is dead. Who will re-fuel the Air-wolf now? ^^;

I'l always remember him from The Black Hole and of-course Air Wolf.

The only other Borgnine gag I can think of is from Johnny Hart's B.C. Rocky, the anthropomorphic rock, is going to a Halloween party. B.C. asks him where he's going, and rocky makes a pumpkin face, complete with toothy grin, and B.C. replies, "You're going to an Ernest Borgnine lookalike contest?"

You did work for cracked? I used to read that for John Severin, I stopped collecting when his work showed up less and less (I hear he died recently as well). I might have picked an issue if I knew you were in it.

I was a big John Severin fan too.

I worked for Cracked from 2000 to 2004. They were slowly going under during this period. The new management there has gotten Severin pretty mad and he refused to work for them anymore, not that I blame him...
