My work tends to look cluttered a lot so I'm saving detail/hatching/shading for the main focal points of the piece and leaving non important areas specifically more bare/flat. I think a big problem with my work is that your eyes are never drawn to one specific area cause i throw heavy blacks and detail everywhere, hopefully I've averted that problem here.
