The following is a living document for a city designed as a parody of the current generation of popular superfur settings and troupes. Most likely some of you are going to find this completely offensive. Fortunately for me, some of you will also find this hilarious. For the former, do keep in mind the original intent of Aphrodite was satire…
City Name: Aphrodite
Universe: Possibly a part of the Silicon City setting, also could be it's own setting
Location: New York State, in the Five Lakes region.
Primary Conflict: City is under the control of a pair of powerful entities known as The
Brothers.
Beaches: No beaches of note but excellent skiing and ski lodges.
The Brothers: Few know they exist and no one is really sure exactly what they are.
Demigods, demons, powerful psychics or magic-users, The Brothers have been called all of these things. What is known for certain is that they have the ability to effortlessly empower other beings, turning regular people into supers; something that's still a feat and a half in a world of mad scientists, magical doodads, and cosmic radiation. Bored and recently arrived to Aphrodite, they have began to subtly turn the city into their own personal playground. Known as Perversion and Pain, this duo commands previously unimaginable power and virtually no morals while resembling the stuff of nightmares. To entertain themselves, they have taken to seeking out and empowering people for the biggest game of cops and robbers around...
Embodying the whims of adolescence and those who failed to outgrow that stage of their lives, Perversion usually resembles a being with the proportions of a fully-grown adult but the appearance of a thirteen-year-old boy. Equipped with the mindset of a horny teenager, he has taken it upon himself to make sure there is an ample supply of “luscious” heroines for their game.
Representing misery and broken dreams, Pain often takes the form of a well-dressed male in his early thirties. Meticulous and able to appear in a variety of shapes, he often gets confused for a certain malevolent figure in Christian mythology… In any case, despite being as amoral as his brother, he generally takes great care in selecting promising men for “villain fodder.” The only exceptions are Panzer Beast and Candy Man, the latter to cater to a personal weakness of his while the former was a concession made with his brother in order to get the Swiss super villain into their game.
Hero Overview: Heroes in Aphrodite are exclusively women (both the brothers are enormous perverts) or Out of Towners (who the brothers naturally fear and are careful to tiptoe around.) The latter often come and go finding Aphrodite strangely quiet, these rumors of "a superhero porno" playing out on the city streets seemingly unfounded. The former find that their powers are subject to the whims of mad godlings prone to stripping them of their abilities when it is least convenient (or most, depending on who's perspective you look through.)
Villain Overview: Relative small fry largely handpicked from the local pool of petty crooks. Sometimes the occasional major felon is thrown in "to make things interesting." The thugs they pick are more then an adequate match for Our Heroines yet lack the cohesion to withstand an organized and disciplined force of metabeings or cape hunters. They're competent, but too unstable to collaborate extensively and the Brothers make no effort to rein them in, preferring the spontaneity of random chaos to "organized predictability."
List of Heroes:
Shield (Doberman, F)- Local policewoman empowered with super-strength, enhanced agility, full-spectrum super-vision, and the ability to turn her pelt into a copper-colored bulletproof hide.
Amp (Afghan Hound, F)- All-American rock-and-roll sonic controller, manipulates sound via an “enchanted” guitar and imbued vocal cords capable of both a destructive screech and a hypnotic soprano.
Cavalier (Seal, F)- German-American immigrant drug into The Game by chance. Gifted with a magic great shield and enchanted lance. The shield is the source of her power, without it she loses access to an array of lesser magical cantrips.
Caramel (Red Fox, F)- Frisky, flirty, Britsh-American female. Given the metamorph powers of elasticity, inflation, and bodyshaping which she abuses whenever the opportunity presents itself. Has a strong weakness for “jelly” desserts.
Why Don’t They Leave?: With things as dark and bleak as they are, one has to wonder why the girls don’t move out of the city. To put it simply, the Brothers picked their champions well. Shield has a strong sense of duty to the city, Amp has to care for her elderly father, Cavalier has neither the connections nor the resources to move again so soon, and Caramel is addicted to being a metabeing.
Rogue’s Gallery:
Gonzales (Field Mouse, M)- A small rodent male with short black hair, soft-spoken and dressed in a tailored suit; his voice carries only the faintest hint of an accent when he speaks. His polite manner hides the fact that there is a mental institution in Mexico frantically looking for him. Pain has seen fit that this madman be blessed with a form of Plasma Generation, allowing him to attack foes with a spectacular pyrotechnic display.
Red Storm (Brown Bear, M)- First generation Russian immigrant, came to America with his family after Baba Yaga tried to attack his village. Shortly after the optimistic chef settled in Aphrodite, Pain had seen to it that his loved ones quickly fell ill. So long as he takes up the mantel of Red Storm, Pain will keep them alive, viciously dangling the promise of a cure in front of him. Dresses in a Cold War era style, fights with the ability to project energy blasts and generate a metallic shell not unlike Shield’s own barrier. Arguably the city’s most honorable rogue.
Panzer Beast (Steer, M)- Textbook narcissistic bully, a muscle-bound bovine that was enormous even before Pain gifted him with the power of super-strength and durability. Able to deadlift a tank, withstand sustained fire from conventional weapons, and easily outmuscle Our Heroines. Joined “The Game” for gold, glory, and “hot pussy.” Fortunately he’s none too bright otherwise he would be quite capable of taking over Aphrodite.
Candy Man (Mouflon Sheep, M)- A master confectioner from Switzerland, granted a psycho-mystical power over sugars, chocolates, and candies. Arrogant, misogynistic, all the base motives of Panzer Beast with the brains of Red Storm and the source of much disagreement between the Brothers.
