I used a set of 12-colour watercolour paints of fairly professional quality. (About 12-16€.)

That's sweet, I appreciate it! I can really recommend getting a good small set of watercolours. Even if you find it's not for you, I guarantee you that the experience will be worth it. I personally find it's really, really fun, relaxing, and very easy! Get some watercolour paper to go with it and you're set (the Moleskine watercolour books are so great and affordable!).
