My first true batch of soap that is meant to be as artistic as it is functional. THIS is the calibur of product I hope to eventually offer for sale online. I think of this batch in my head as a "Carotenoid Castile" but that doesn't make for a very good title if you don't know what carotenoids are. Basically, it looks kind of fox colored. I could give you the botanical explanation but they're plant pigments that also act as antioxidants and protect against UV radiation in our skin. The liquid used to dissolve the lye in this recipe is fresh squeezed carrot juice and ginger juice. Carotenoids are named after carrots. The color in the top layer is Annatto, the color of which comes from the carotenoid bixin. The red line between the two layers is colored with Paprika, also rich in carotenoids. The scent for this bar is pure orange essential oil, pure cinnamon cassia essential oil, and pure clove essential oil. Each of these bars weighs in at around five and a half ounces, which is big. Let me know what you think!

This is not a soap that I would use on very sensitive skin, not because of the soap itself but what I have used to scent it. Right now I'm trying to use up the essential oils I've purchased to make room for fragrance oils I'll be using for the soaps we distribute. Both cinnamon and clove have a reputation for being a skin irritant in some individuals. Neither me nor Sylrynn seem to react to them but this is not a soap I would give away without caution, and certainly not one I would sell. That said, cold process soaps, like these, are fantastic on sensitive skin because A: There is an excess of oils (in this case coconut and olive) which are moisturizing for the skin. B: Cold process soap unlike mass produced soap does not have the by-product of soap making glycerine removed. Glycerine is also a good moisturizing agent for the skin. In the future our soaps will contain more skin safe scents, and we may produce some unscented bars for those with particularly sensitive skin.
