This is Igor, the Turkey Vulture!
I found a whole vulture on the side of a dirt road near my house. I took the head, legs and some feathers from the bird. His beak and talons are quite sharp!
Vultures aren't very easy at all to come by, and this happens to be my first bird skull. I'm so stoked over him. :D He is now sitting on my shelf in my personal collection. <3
He's the pride and joy of all my finds so far~
I'm thinking of doing a kind of neat thing with the legs, making a sort of dreamcatcher type thing with them. Or just wrapping the top half with leather to make them less creepy looking haha.

A fun thing about bones... Especially hip an skull bones, is the positive/negative space inbetween the bone.. Gives it a canvernous and maze-like feel... So I especially love this photo. :D
Take a picture of his legs in whatever fashion you can. :D And no, that doesn't mean high heels. I think he'd be quite upset about that. *ba-dum-tsh* :D . . . *tomatoe'd*

Yes, they're very artistic and fascinating in their shapes. <3 I love making the light shine through them like this to really show that off.
lmao! I'm sure that would make him quite upset. It'd definitely upset me even. XD
I'll try to take an interesting shot of them tomorrow!

We have an Explorer, so lotsa room for stuff in the back. I haven't picked up any fresh roadkill yet, though I saw a big cat the other day but my Mom wouldn't let me pick it up. :/
Whenever I'm on a dumproad and a car goes by I tend to hide automatically. Even though I don't really care what other people may think of my hobby haha.

most bird skulls and any part of a bird is illegal to own. i would look up the laws in your area and the migratory bird act to make sure you are safe.
im just letting you know because some ass hat butt raped me with info and demanded i get rid of the bird skull i had because its illegal to own them blah blah cry me a river. i still have my skull and im not getting rid of it XD LOL

Yes.. I know. :x
But I'm not expecting any police raids anytime soon, so the "illegalness" isn't going to stop me from having a beautiful skull lol. I mean tons of people have bluejay feathers and other pretty things from migratory birds, so I figure having a vulture skull isn't a big deal as long as I'm not selling it or anything. XD;

when i collect them i can get more then needed and if you want i can send them to you :) i also live by a green belt so lots of bird feathers are around there just lately haven't been able to do much of anything due to the herniated disc in my back waiting for OR doc to call me to get appointment for pre op talk and to get the operation done so i can be functional again XD
It's illegal to possess the parts of any bird covered under the migratory bird act period.
Being a bird of prey rehabber i understand the law is to protect the species but it's a little strict in my opinion since you can find feathers and body parts from animals that died naturally in the wild.
I know a lot of wildlife officers who'd rather go after poachers than someone who found and scavenged a naturally deceased carcass.
That's a beautiful skull omg.

Ahh, that's good to know.
I think the law is strict too, which is why I kept it. If I didn't kill the animal, I don't see why I shouldn't be allowed to keep it and preserve it's beauty. :/
It is! I think bird skulls in general are gorgeous, but vulture skulls are very impressive.
