I think this is the last of the Mass Effect OCs I've been working on. Let me just start by saying that I'm not a big fan of the Asari. Their design doesn't offend me, but I find it very juvenile. A race of hot blue bisexual alien chicks? -_- Really? Okay, I'm not going to go into it. I feel like everyone's probably heard this rant, so I'll spare you all.
I felt like I needed to come up with a reasonable Asari character. One who isn't all boobs and curves and sex appeal. And thus did we come up with Taka. She did the typical stripper/sex worker thing once upon a time in her youth. Then she wised up, realized what she was doing, and decided to leave it all behind for the life of excitement and guns and stuff. (Shortening the story here to prevent boredom). She's supposed to have a sort of Boba Fett/Samus vibe in that she's always wearing armor and a helmet. The intent was to make her as asexual as possible. She has no interest in anyone's genitals and she intends to stay that way. She DOES have an interest in getting paid to shoot people, though.
I still need a LOT of practice with body armor. The design I sketched up here was based on some of the Cerberus armor I saw in one of the Mass Effect art books. That's subject to change. Also, I can't do shiny crap very well. I think I need to make her armor less polished, more beat the fuck up. And those are supposed to be scars on her face, not stripes. Need to work on that. Ah well, sketches are sketches...
I'll shove this into scraps before too long...

My husband and the other guys I work with had problems with it. And they all prefer females. And no, it's not because they were trying to impress me or not piss me off or anything. They were the ones that pointed it out to ME. Not every guy who likes females likes to see such obvious eye candy. Not saying that you can't enjoy them...
Yeah, actually I have a huge problem with it, on alot of levels. Without blowing this way out of proportion, cause I'm sure you were just joking, the juvenile treatment of women/feminism/sexuality in the Asari design diminishes the maturity of the universe overall and its pandering to adolescent male fantasies is disrespectful to the mature player. You don't have to agree with me, but understand that when you make blanket statements for an entire gender/sexual preference like this based on your own opinion, you diminish that entire group and others views of that group. Please stop speaking for all straight males, you don't represent us all. Just speak for yourself.
I despise the idea of the asari; I always have. Very technically the concept of the race would work, if BW didn't make them come across as pure fantasy material.. you know, the whole "hot blue scace lesbos omg!" that supposedly appear attractive to other races. They could have made the race potentially interesting; but instead they opted to head for the "cheap sexual fantasies" path. And as expected it seemed to become rather popular with your average gamer... or so I at least concluded.
So you know what? I always love to see "different" asari; armored, (as in truly armored, not escher girl bikini armored) battle ready beefy asari. She looks like she can pack a punch... or two!

Ha ha! That pretty much sums up the rant I took out of the submission text :D I haven't actually met in person anyone who actually LIKED and took seriously the design for the Asari. It was a HUGE disappointment to me that Bioware even included them in the game with such a juvenile design. -_- But I won't rant. I'll just say that I agree with all that you said.
Well, I'm glad you appreciate what I was trying to pull off with this character. LOL ESCHER GIRL BIKINI ARMOR! Another problem I have with the industry, but I won't get into it here. It's just nice to see that the angle I went with here is being appreciated ^_^

Yeah, I 100% agree with all that! One of the biggest disappointments in the design of ME was the Asari to me. I hate what they made the race into, but I couldn't leave well enough alone. I took it as a challenge to come up with a character that is actually interesting and outside their "sexy blue lesbian" box. Boom! Glad you liked :D
It's really awesome to see an Asari that's not blatantly oversexualized. They're so bland, especially for something in ME.
But masked characters are always great (huge Boba Fett fan, loved the reference xD) and seeing a character that would rather shoot first and screw never is a breath of fresh air. I hope to see more of her <:

Thank you very much! I take it as a huge compliment that you approve :3 Yeah, I just couldn't stand the way the Asari were handled in the damn game. Such a fucking waste, if you ask me! Some of their visual design was interesting, but most of it wasn't and their story was just BUH! My husband and I were so disappointed by the supposedly "bad ass" Asari commandos as well. So we made a better one! :D And yeah, Boba Fett is kind of a constant inspiration to me as I've been fairly obsessed with him since I was a wee girl (and I'm talking about old school Fett, none of the shit that's come out with the prequils. Jango Fett can SUCK A DICK as well as all the "cannon" material surrounding him). And now that I have my ME art book in hand to help with armor design, I think I'll be working on more art of her soon :3
Definitely a lot of wasted potential, I completely agree. I wasn't terribly impressed with the whole Justicar thing either. Samara's whole arc in 2+3 was just...blah. Boo hoo, typical tragic family that's blessed/cursed with great power.
THANK YOU! You're one of the first people who's agreed with me on that (that I've spoken to). Jango works as the father-figure, but the series probably could've gone without the prequel crap. But that goes without saying for 99% of that XDD
Again, I'm really looking forward to seeing more. :3 Your ME art is amazing.
