Aye! The Capn' was similarly compelled in his tale Rainbow Dash's Nightmare (or Sonic Rainkaboom).
Dash is kind of an irresistible target because of her investment in her image the others just don't seem to have. It might be an odd facet of living nature that we like to see the snooty brought down a few pegs.

The explosion interest stems mostly from the desire to end an inflation fic on a high an decisive note. Ol'Squeaks feels let down when flation/fattening tales don't end but just sort of stop. Granted ye can end without a boom, but with at least the threat of a boom it amps up the drama and emotions an makes a bit of...no pun intended...tension before the finale.
So that's why mainly; an interest in the high strain intensity of a lead up to a boom an the boom itself jus caps off a tale in a way that's finalized an satisfyin in most cases :)
