Hey guys! Here's another poem I made. Now, for the "Hero Lies In You" story, I apologize, because now, I hesitate on making another chapter or deleting it altogether. I'll be making fanfics in the future, but not at the moment. For now, this poem is what I define the current American government. I was typing this poem while I was listening to the Tupac song, "Changes". ^^ Enjoy!
People say that we’re past slavery,
But, still, I know that we’re still not free.
We, the people, may not be in chains,
But, under corporate, governmental rule, we are all slaves.
The Declaration of Independence is still a lie.
How is it true when I see many innocent people die?
The Founding Fathers signed it for nothing, only to solve an eternal fight.
Did they not write, “With certain unalienable rights”?
Lovely Lady Liberty must be weeping over her people,
Didn’t they declare that all men were created equal?
Or is she turning her back on us, and has become corrupt and evil?
The bald eagle, symbol of pride and liberty, has fled,
For freedom to him has been long dead.
Sometimes, I feel the Devil is now America’s mascot.
Why else would this country fall down and rot?
While the rich brag about their luxuries and clothes,
The poor don’t have the money to leave their polluted or inner-city homes.
While priests reach their own self-fulfilling conclusions,
Anti-gay harassment and suicide is still a problem in educational institutions.
CEO’s destroy ecosystems, and contaminate the air,
That could endanger some lives, but who the hell cares?
It’s all part of their commercial game.
Then, they sugar-coat it and say everything’s okay.
Greedy politicians boast and cause strife,
While the people would kill just to survive.
They’re trying to bring nuclear bombs into war,
But we have to ask ourselves, “Is this what JFK, Thomas Jefferson, and others fought for?”
What does it take for people to realize we’re not free?
Once they’re discriminated against, or someone kills their niece?
When will we rise in our wake?
When we're on the brink of death and chaos and it's too late?
Does that document still have meaning?
Or is it merely a piece of paper with nonsense and no reasoning?
As those fireworks shoot on the day of independence,
I know no free country should be made on the backs of people’s silences.
Or be ruled by people with privileges.
People say that we’re past slavery,
But, still, I know, we’re still not free.
Brethren, if you wish for freedom and yearn it,
You have to be ready to earn it.
Though, getting to the Promised Land comes with a price.
Are you willing to fight for your rights?
People say that we’re past slavery,
But, still, I know that we’re still not free.
We, the people, may not be in chains,
But, under corporate, governmental rule, we are all slaves.
