here she is! mounted on the wall! and thats what the whit lines across it are! they're finishing wire holding it up XD

How long did it take you to make and paint that bitch? What's it from?

It's my own design :D

It took about 8 hours to make the 3d model in maya, then about 20 hours for the milling machine to cut it out from the prototyping foam :)

the painting was fairly quick as it was just spraying and drybrushing hehh

I wish! :( sadly I no longer have access to the machine that made this :( theres a chance that I can access it next year in the new school year :) If so I'll let you know :D

VERY well spotted! It's got inspriations from the p90, the G36c, (thus the little nub in the carrying handle) the Tau railgun and the heavy machine gun from halo reach! :D

Railgun? i prefer a Gauss rifle, Aluminum pellets charged with insane amounts of electromagnetic energies flung at a speed of around 2500M per second.

its drilled out of prototyping foam (no idea what the foams called, OR the machine) and It was free for me as it was using my universitys machine and foam. so i have no idea how much would usualy cost im affraid!

Ah so they didn't use a 3d printer they used a Cnc Waaaaaay different >> Still really good job making the model, did you program the toolpaths in too?

Made it in autodesk maya and then converted it over to the milling machine which used "rhinoserous" which I'd never heard of before.

Iv only ever used Alphacam... Is autodesk easy to use? And more importantly lol is it free?

Lol its really easy to use, and you can get a free trial easy as pie or if your a student you can get the student version. but getting the full one is VERY expensive XD

you have the choice of "maya" and "3ds max" they're but essentialy the same program with a different user interface depending on your preference.

I think I had 3ds max once upon a time, I was too young to know how to use it tho, Ill need to see if I can find that disc again.. Ever think about doing stuff like that for a job? Making foam weapons for larping and air-soft skins?

I model digital products for my full time job so I dont fancey modelling in my free time as well haha

Im hoping someday to be able to model and make larping weapons.. My current project Im saving money up for is to start making robots based off mechwarrior.. Hopefully people will like the idea enough to buy them..
