I've been meaning to sketch up a ragged resistance since this whole phenomenon started... Combining all the best parts of a losing fight.
The fear, the pain, the hopelessness... The uncertainty.
That internal dialog; do I give up? Do I end it while I still can? Do I have the spirit to keep fighting, and even if I do... Am I willing to face the consequences...?

Phelan might be a skinny little bastard, but he's handy on a ROMAK-III. Not that it'll do him much good in the end...
But hopeless romantics love heroism. Such a delicious concept, the struggle... THe struggle to collect and protect friends and loved ones, to hide them and feed them... To find another living soul to call "friend" when the rest have been taken from you...
The struggle to maintain resolve when hunger, sickness and fear have *become* your conscious mind...
A struggle at last, to slither out of your web-harness when your bike becomes hung-up on a piece of steel reinforcement rod and won't fire-up; to eject your magazine, when even your rifle seems to have turned on you...
Then to decide if it's time to quit, time to turn your last companion in the universe on yourself to spare the pain and the terror, or to make one last, worthless, heroic but worthless nevertheless, lash out against the attackers...
I'd imagine that fraction of a second taking several hours' perception to pass.
The WASR Romak-III isn't the fastest weapon on earth... It doesn't kick, it sort of shoves... Especially noticeable when it's dirty, corroded, and firing ammunition that literally lived to see the beginning of the cold war.
Much of it would be felt. Heat... A lot of heat. The first would be that last climactic explosion inside a tight metal container, rupturing the bolt, the dust cover... Burying a chunk of 50-year-old metal in your right shoulder from beneath... THe wash of heat from the burning gunpowder searing away the outer layer of feathers... Heat in your torso from a strung-out body trying to force what little adrenaline it could into a broken, pathetic creature...
THen the heat in your face... THe knot in your chest.
THe struggle to understand why... To grasp what just happened.
To understand that you've just lost, and that now, while the struggle won't go on much longer... It will certainly be more agonizing than you could have imagined.
THe next several hours served struggling in chains.

I think that the Soviet Era posters are quite fantastic actually! I I'd very much love to copy that style, but I'm not sure I have the talent or the software to pull it off. Those posters are most iconic to say the least.
As for the Rubberbird bases? They are mostly based out of attack ships. But then there is Overbird's Mother-ship, hidden in space. I would show it to you but then I would have to have you assassinated. :D
