This isn't the MLP:FiM universe! I use magic how I can/want it! It's Dragon Magic! I don't have to explain sh*t!
But if you are so interested: I'm still a magic wielding dragoness (in pony disguise) in the MLP:FiM universe too. The horn is just for show, and to fool other ponies, so they won't question me using magic, as a unicorn.

My MLP:FiM backstory is still in developement, but I'm the Queen Dragon of a large group, and I'm in good terms with Princess Celestia. As long as I visit Equestria, I'm obliged to wear a disguise, to hide my dragon origin from the ponies...blah,blah etc...

It's not an allegiance...more like mutual respect-born-out-of-duty: I was once the Element of Magic, and my brood gave Celestia the Elements of Harmony to battle Discord. To my regret, I couldn't do it, because if I were somehow defeated, Discord would rule my dragons too, since "the strongest one rules" rule is in effect in our society. I -however strong i was - tasked Celestia to utilize the Elements of Harmony against Discord...the rest is history...
