Perhaps starting out as a journey with 2 or more, one remained after an ambush and is forbidden to return without the objective being fulfilled. Traveling alone, it is seen the lone traveler's sadness at the loss and the little hope that remains, but continues the journey until reaching where he/she was supposed to redeem himself/herself, only to come to the realization it never existed to begin with. The traveler drops to his/her knees, face buried in hands. Everything fades to black.
