I managed to get one good one of a hummingbird a few years ago at my parents' place but it was not nearly as gorgeous as this, I didn't catch it at some flowers, it was at a bird feeder with the white house on the side that was the background.

that flower looks like a Red Hot Poker. I have those in my garden, and there's this one hummingbird that feeds from it daily, and it fiercely defends it from other birds, even much larger ones!

This is an amazing clean sharp, shallow focus... must have been tough

It's a 70-200mm F/2.8 lens. I sneaked in on the hummingbird and snapped a couple shots :)

A great lens. Looks like a low ISO as well, I don't see any noise, even in the bokeh areas. Even at 200mm, you had to have been very close. Did you crop at all?

Yea, I was about 4 feet from the bird!

I cropped the picture about 50% off the original.

ISO is at 100. Exposure time 1/320 sec.
