With Chevrolet not getting involved with racing, Chevrolet tuner Bill Thomas came up with this own answer to the Shelby Cobra - the Cheetah. Powered by a 377 Chevy engine, the Cheetah was rather successful for a privately funded car, winning several races in 1964 despite normal teething issues for a new car.

Unfortunately, the Cheetah's tenure in racing was brief, lasting only a few years before disappearing from the racing scene.
