Probably nothing like Diablo, though... ? If those programs are now capable of producing decent Action-RPGs I'd actually be tempted to check out some of the games by others.
But part of the problem is, some of those programs make things almost too easy. Which is great for younger users/people just starting out, but it also means most of the games are of a rather low quality, and tend to be very similar.

Hah hah... Fair enough. ( And quite true, I suspect. )
I guess I just meant that most of the older and more experienced game designers eventually move on to more "professional" programs or programming languages, since the easier to understand ones also tend to be more limiting. But in any case, if you happen to know any examples of exceptionally well made RPG-Maker Action-RPGs, do let me know.

Legend of Grimrock?
mmm... the most common way it's described is as an "old school dungeon crawler RPG" and i suppose that's as good as any. it's about as much puzzle-game as RPG, though, and it's definitely not easy. it's like $14 and well worth every penny, i say. it might have been top-down and played very similarly, but it's a first-person view mode and many of the UI elements were deliberately designed as throw-backs to an earlier era of games. i have a few critiques about the game, but none involving its overall concept and design. it's very solid as a game, and definitely one of the more important works of art released into this medium in the last decade.
you can get it from GoG or through the developers themselves, and i believe there's a version on Steam, too? the GoG and developer-direct versions are sans DRM though, so that's a bonus...

Oh, right, it's in full 3D, but turn-based like the old 1st person dungeon crawlers, correct? I remember hearing a thing or two about it.
The thing is, my connection is rather slow and unreliable, so I miss out on most download-only or online games, unless they also release a boxed version. :<

Yeah, you have to make some compromises with this sort of thing. I'm mostly focusing on what looks good and what's functional ( not necessarily in that order ) -- realism kind of gets the short end of the stick, so to speak. But, while these graphics aren't 100% final, I'm pretty happy with the overall look and style so far.
