It's a lot safer for some animals. Live feeder animals run the potential of hurting the predator animal. I used to work at a pet store and we sold feeder mice, but we also sold them frozen. You'd just have to heat them and the animal would eat it. Though there was a guy that complained that his snake just didn't seem interested in the frozen rats.

I always felt so bad having to grab animals out of their cages knowing they were just going to be dumped in a cage and trapped. T.T

i dont really have an opinion on it, though like Glue above me, i have known owners of snakes who wouldn't eat dead prey, heated or no. but i thank you for the answer :3

Yeah I'm kinda on the fence about it. I hated being the one to have to get the feeder mice and rats out of the cages, but I understand some animals need the movement and the body heat before they're even remotely interested. And it's just scary dangling a thawed rat in front of a snake.

Did it once at work, almost got bit. I was wearing snake gloves but I ended up squealing and chucking the rat in the cage all "EFF THIS" style. xD

I mean... death is a critical part of life.
And a lot of snakes don't take to pre-kills

I have a red-tail, she only eats pre-kills because she has a dented lens cap, and lost half her tongue to mouth rot, so I'm sure a mouse could do her some damage, a snake who cant smell is basically blind. (I adopted her)

But I have friends with turtles who wont eat pre-killed fish or insects, Most insectivores and aquatic creatures hunt by motion, so what are ya gonna do.

My snake actually tries to bite me more than the mouse :p
And I set it under the heat lamp for a while till it's warm throughout

Sometimes if my cat brings in mice I give those to her, so they aren't even frozen at all


Snake bites are just SUPER fast. They're scary, not painful. Iguana bites.... Now that's bad D:

I just hate how they lunge so quickly at you. Barely even have enough time to respond. And as they were all pretty small snakes aside from one I doubt it'd hurt though none of them ever got me. I dangled the thawed mouse once. Never again. I'd rather not make that sound in front of a bunch of customers again. xD

Never been bitten by an iguana either. Only got kisses~
