Gift Art I drew for ~kittykat on DA. She was feeling down, and I like her work, so I drew this to cheer her up. That's her char, KK, and mine, Hiratsu/Jer, comforting her. And I still get comments about my art -_- Like how instead of comforting her it looks like he's molesting her and he's the cause of her pouting. Pft XD No, furverts *Chuckles* I like this pic, aside from the lack of proper placement of his boot under his pants leg. It just sticks out, the pants don't fold properly. Anyway, enjoy!

I think the look you mean, looking like he's more molesting than comforting, is because of 1) the distance between their bodies and 2) that his arms are locked out almost straight in consequence. Usually a comforting touch involves some curved arm if not some body contact. When a male wants to be comforting and *not* sexual, in that pose (sitting side by side) I'd expect one arm around the shoulders, leaving the whole flank open and unguarded.
That said, her arms and shoulders look wonderful, held inside and depressed. Great work on both their hands, also... the pose is off but the hands look like hands in that pose should be.

*Grins* It's been so long since I've had someone look at my art. But you're being a bit too generous. Mostly this pic was a huge leap forward for me, as well as I did in the terms of placement of the two characters is a big improvement for me. This was a milestone pic, my best work at the time for the angle and physics. I hadn't done a lot of close double character pairing in a way, and I never focused or practiced it I just drew it when the pose was there to be used for my idea.
But this was good for the time. I didn't want him to be too close to her, and yes I do see his elbows being locked and it seems a bit unatural. As for the curving, his right arm is around her waist, if you look you can see his finger's on KK's right side, not her hips or shoulder. I didn't /wouldn't have done that because doing that usually encourages or coaxes a hug, even simply by the placement of weight upon the body and joints the arm would want to lower if you didn't lay it over her back and the hand would tug on the shoulder somewhat bringing her closer.
KK isn't really someone I "know". Rather I had been browsing her gallery and just felt that I wanted to hug her. And I thought, hell I'll draw it. And I did, in the pic I feel I was as "intimate" as I wanted to show sincere concern and support without going over any boundaries having not known or befriended her prior. Also given this char is something of "me" in a sense and design for framework, if I reached out in those positions it would be most comfortable to relax and let my arm roll out of my socket, and that would explain those positions.
It's still not right, because I still didn't even portray that aspect accurately, it just comes off as something off. My shoulders distend but at that angle the ball would still be under the muscle and it doesn't look accurate. Another thing, I tried to sneak in but suppose was not noticed: Notice their leg "entwinent" His leg is behind hers, and hers being in front of his I was wanting to show she had placed her leg like that of her own accord. A somewhat suble but present gesture of thanks for the comfort.
Because in the real world people don't really perform on screen scripted scenes like in TV series and movies. It's more sublime, there's more finese to how life really functions. I'm rather baffled personally at how "Right" KittyKat's character came out. I keep wanting to find things about it I did wrong or didn't like but i look at her and I go "Yep, I like that" I even have WIP versions of this pic, one with KK by herself and Hiratsu/Jer not even present. Pre scan. Thank you as well on the comments of her arms, I didn't use any references sans my imagination, I guess I just happened to have gotten that one down well.
Much appreciation for your critique it brings me joy =)
