Rhett is about as emotionally responsive as a third grader so all he wants to do is call Jay names and rub fistfuls of dirt in her hair

He's obsessed with getting attention from her so he'll be out grocery shopping and she'll be standing by the oranges and he'll be all "look at me look at me why won't you look at me"

Rhett's basically in love with her but lacks the maturity to come to that conclusion and deal with it rationally

it's really sad and everyone is embarrassed for him

Jay isn't really put off by his behavior?? At most she's confused but otherwise she finds it funny and kind of endearing
