OMG YES! _brings my hmaSTAR over and lets them play =o (actually that might be a bad idea o.o hamsters don't like cage mates...) So I say PUT THEM IN BALLS!

yeah, they really dont like other hamsters :P i actually got her shortly after her siblings started to attack each other.
and no, balls arent good as well XD she actually doesnt run around that much outside of her cage anyway. i wanted to get rats first so i bought a HUGE cage. when i let her out she runs around for a couple of minutes and then she starts to climb up my leg because she wants to go back inside and into her wheel :P

lol my hamster is the opposite: Put her in the ball and she'll go cruising EVERYWHERE lol. What breed is yours?

as far as i know djungarian drawfs are pretty much the most common dwarf hamsters. judging by the photos id say your ruby is a djungarian dwarf hamster as well. but im no expert at all and the photo is rather small so its hard to tell :3

I'm not sure what the technical species name is but she's called a "winter white" in layman's terms -shot-

that is a different name for djungarian dwarf hamsters^^ they are called that because in the wild they turn white during the winter. in captivity they dont do that though.
mine just happens to be white. her father was white as well and i really hoped she would keep her color^^ i got her in november, now its the end of july and she is still white X3

i had a different hamster a couple of years ago. she was white when i got her but she turned grey.

Yeah, there are 3 types of Winter White I've seen. There's the gray ones, the brown ones, and the "pearl" ones (white all year for some reason). There's also apparently a hybrid one called a pudding hamster. They're a cross between winter white and Campbell hamster, and they come out a pretty orange color, but still have the dorsal stripe down the back that's a darker orange. They're dangerous to get though because the hamster is highly likely to lose the litter :/ or something to that affect from what I heard.

Ruby actually turned into a "cow" hamster for a while. Because I live in Florida, the winters feel colder than they really are sometimes due to humidity, so she kept going back and forth between brown and white, and finally her body decided "Okay, fuck this. I'm gonna be splotchy!" So she had splotches of gray/brown and splotches of white. It was cute, and she didn't seem bothered by it at all =3

I thought it was interesting that she got really stressed and upset when i moved and she wasn't next door to a mouse cage. She started trying to eat my hand and when I kidnapped her mouse friend, she got better.

my little missy now gets mad at me when i touch the small cardboard box that i put into her cage^^ she loves it and she attacks my hand when she sees me touch it :P

But she doesn't attack me for touching them. She only hides in the corner and refuses to come out because she knows that means im taking it away.

my lil gal is VERY possessive when it comes to her stuff. she also gets super impatient when im cleaning her cage :P

Mine has no problem running around in her ball for a couple hours.

ive actually never tried that, mainly because i dont really like them. i prefer having her run around without a ball^^

There's also a small play-pen that you can get. Ruby doesn't like hers because it's open enough for her to think she's free, then she tried to chew the bars like she can escape :/

the problem with those things is that they are usually too small with bars that have the right gap between them or they have a perfect size but the bars are too far apart to keep a hamster inside :P
at least that is the case with those that you can get here in germany.

Critter trail makes a perfect one (perfect in my opinion) of course the only problem I would think of is that you cant have tall hamster buildings in it or they'll try and jump out of them pen (ruby tries that). You can also get more than one and connect them to make it double the size.
