Ford Capri VHK 11W
My favourite car from The Professionals. The real car still lives to this day & sees action from shows across Northern Ireland. Martin Shaw (Doyle) was re-united with this car sometime in the last decade after it's restoration & has had the offside front inner wing signed. After the signing, it was clear coated so where-ever this Capri goes, so will Shaw's signature.
This car is a 3.0 S & used used in the 1981 episodes of The Professionals alongside VHK 12W, another surviving Capri from the show. My favourite scene with the two cars was in Cry Wolf towards the end when VHK 11W drove on a runway head on with a light aircraft with Doyle leaning out, shooting the pilot then coming up alongside VHK 12W when Bodie & Susan where crouched beside. Then one of my favourite quotes.
"What you doing?"
"What do you think, looking for the car keys"
Why can't there be TV like that these days? Brian Clemens, COME BACK TO US!!!

This is why I love old Fords, everybody has either been in contact with one or owned one themselves. One of dad's ex-girlfriend's ex-boyfriend's had a Capri. Another one of my dad's exes borrowed one & crashed it. I came across a very tatty Capri in my town but I knew is was an awesome car. I met a guy on holiday to Tunisia who had one. Even some American pals I know raced US-spec Capris back in the day!! My cousin had three Capris too. I really hope to get one then I could park up outside rock gigs Professionals style
Older cars had a lot more character than the 'bubbles' of today. I much prefer the older boxier style the cars had.
I remember before me mum got the Capri she had an old Fiat Panda. It was hilarious going through country lanes, especially with the higher rear suspension, there was always this large hump in the middle of the lane and she'd always speed up going over it, we'd fly in the back seat and crack up laughing.
Then we got the Capri and my god that thing had power and it sounded like a beast! I miss the old days =/

I know. There is no Capri of today, even though the hot hatch killed the Capri, they don't have the same presence or style. The Capri is a proper, practical, affordable sports car. It's biggest rivals were cars like the MGB & Reliant Scimitar (princess Anne had one) but they were both more expensive than the Capri. In the seventies, if you wanted a car with less than two litre capacity, the MGB & Capri 1600GT would of been perfect but the Capri could seat more people & their luggage. It also had more options than any other car.
1300 to 3000cc engines, endless trim options, manual or automatic gearbox options, choice of GT engines from 1300 to 2000cc (for the Mk1).
The Mk2 also had loads of options. 1300, 1600/1600S/GT, 2000, 3000cc engines, L/Base, XL/L, XLR/GL, GXL/Ghia, GT/S & of course the John Player Special.
The Mk3 though, being my favourite, has a lot less options but alot of Specials. The GT4, Calypso, Cabaret, Tempo, Cameo models with engines ranging from 1300 to 2000cc. The Thumping great 2.8 Injection & the well packaged Lasers. I may get myself an LS. It's basically a GT4 without the body stripes & that means I can get black trim & Carla cloth (1980/3) or Laser cloth (1983/4) interiors. The choice is endless & you could do a lot with the lesser spec engines, suspension, axles, steering & cosmetics just by using parts from other Capris.
Parts are also shared with other cars in the Ford range. The engines came from Escorts, Cortinas, Corsairs, Zephyrs/Zodiacs, Sierras & Granadas so spares are plentiful. Name another car with that many plus points
Just remembered I met a guy in a garage while I was doing work experience there. He brought in his Eighties Beemer for an MOT but all he could talk about was Capris. He had a 2.8 Injection & fondly remembers a traffic light race with an XR3i. The XR blew up while he was roaring down the road victorious. He said the same thing that you are saying now. Really fast & endless power
