My painting for the RARE 2013 calendar project. You can see the other art here: RARE 2013 Anthro Calendar. You can also order the calendar at the discounted Early Bird rate until July 31!
My theme was to paint something depicting Inuit culture. After some research on traditional Inuit stories, I found one about the Fire Owl. In the story, two children have their fire stolen away by thieves, and they ask an owl to retrieve it for them. The Fire Owl takes the fire back and returns it to the children and their family, so they won't freeze.
Watercolor and white gouache, with a little Photoshop on hot-press Fabriano. 8.5X11 inches
