1914 – The Khaki Chum's Christmas Truce – Lest We Forget
I suppose an explanation for this endeavor is in order. It's something we've been working on since before last Christmas when the project was begun.
My friend
ant who shares my love of history, had commissioned music representative of the 1914 Christmas Truce. He asked me if I could put words to it, but unfortunately it was already written and was not the type of music one could sing to. Having researched the event, however, I was taken by the project and began work on the song, enlisting the aid of
dolphinboy for the music (found here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8491622/ ) which, as in all things he has done for me, he put his heart into it and did not disappoint.
littlenapoleon joined for the artwork.
peppercoyote joined for the singing and production. (still in work)
luchs is helping with the German translation.
This might all sound simple, but life has made it difficult for all of us, especially D.
The song, as written, can be as small or as large as you wish to make it. It is designed to be sung by two voices - a British soldier, and a German soldier.
The song's chorus will be sung alternately in English and German, the two languages finally blending into each other.
The narrative can be used, or not used, depending on the arrangement. What you will read in the narrative is 100% true. The event really did happen and the narrative was formed from the many eyewitness accounts written about it.
Can you imagine that this happened almost 100 years ago?
This song has been written in hopes that the event will not be forgotten.
To me, the happening proves that man is inherently good which is the reason Christmas happened in the first place.
We should embrace that more.

Which just goes to show the contradictory nature of war.
Along with the Christmas festivities along the front there were also repeated Masonic Lodge meetings with both sides during the civil war.
An interesting statistic, on both sides roughly 50% of the rounds fired during the cCvil War were fired OVER the heads of the opposing forces "Maybe they'll go away and we won't have to kill them"
There is nothing civil about wars.

An excellent effort to present an event of which I was somewhat familiar. I'm very much looking forward to the finished project.
My heart is heavy, though. I have a tendency to view such things as a painful reminder of human nature; that we cannot learn our lessons for good. As a species we build and destroy, over and over without ever truly understanding the needlessness of fighting. We are too diverse, too separated, too emotional. I see a temporary truce between warring soldiers as a bittersweet draught that takes away the pain for a time but cannot cure what ails us.
A good day to you, Ms. Vixyy. *bows*

It's unfortunate that we have learned so little in the almost 100 years sine this unfolder in reality. We have politicians, once again, talking of war, talking of helping rebels in Syria and bombing Iran. I wonder if it will ever stop. Worse, I wonder if it CAN ever stop.
Lovely song/poem Vixyy.
