I have no idea. Maybe it was initially some sort of prank? It's pretty awesome though. I never even realized that this has been right on the outskirts of my hometown for probably my whole life; only learned about it because some friends and I were geocaching and it was one of the sites. It's one of those things that you could easily miss driving by, despite how out-of-the-ordinary it is.
It was my first time ever geocaching, so it was a good introduction to the activity : 3 Totally dragged Bir and some pals along for the ride, haha. Somehow I had never even heard of it until really recently, despite my love for hiking. We just went here and a couple local conservation districts.
