Kevin Star is the twin of Amber. His right eye is white. When the twins were born Amber had two white eyes and it appeared as if she was either blind or at least visually impaired. The twins were born in the a very rich family and the parents agreed to have an experimental surgery that would switch one of Kevin's 'good' eyes with Amber's 'bad' eyes so that they would not have to deal with raising a visually impaired child.

In fact Amber had been born a spirit follower and her white eyes gave her the ability to see the spirits, elements, gods, demons, etc. When the eyes were switched some of her powers were transferred to Kevin and as he grew he gained a simpler version of his sisters power.
