When the twins were born Amber had two white eyes and it appeared as if she was either blind or at least visually impaired. The twins were born into a very rich family and the parents agreed to have an experimental surgery that would switch one of Kevin's 'good' eyes with Amber's 'bad' eyes so that they would not have to deal with raising a visually impaired child.

In fact Amber had been born a spirit follower and her white eyes gave her the ability to see the spirits, elements, gods, demons, etc. Her did not diminish at all with the removal of her eye.
