Don't Worry, Girl, It Can't Rain All The Time
Giftart for an old and dear friend of her black panther character, Shroomer, being comforted by my main character, Wielder. This is meant to fit in a 4" x 6" frame, so it's pretty small.
Done with copic markers, brush pen, india ink, micron inks, and white gel pen on regular sketchbook paper. Matted with scrapbooking paper for the border.

You posted this around around the time when I was crying on a bus full of strangers, having just said goodbye to my grandmother in the knowledge that we will probably never see each other again in this life, and wishing with all my heart for a shoulder to make good and wet.
Granny is very, very old, and she says she's had a good life. It's as right as death can ever be. But good god damn if it doesn't hurt.

Thanks, you. I'm finding that comments like that mean a surprising amount in the face of sorrow.
Part of the hurt was that she's not actually dead yet -- the knowledge that I couldn't stay to the end, but that I'll probably be in another country when she does die, and I won't be able to be there. But if that happens, I know now that we did have our chance to say goodbye, and to tell each other a little of what we mean to each other.
She's an astonishing woman -- the things she's done and seen are amazing. Raised as the daughter of a Scottish laird; crossed America on a folding bicycle when she was already a grandmother; worked on Halifax bombers and at Bletchley Park during the Second World War; climbed the Sydney Harbour Bridge for a lark on her 80th birthday. I'm so proud to be descended from her. :)

This is so touching. I can really feel the emotion and tenderness in this. You can see the way Wielder holds her close by how her cheek is mushed against her. I like that you mixed regular black ink and more implied line with your coloring.
Shroomer is a gorgeous character. I adore her hair and earrings. She looks like a character I wouldn't want to see cry, she's too pretty!
