One of South Carolina's three medically significant spiders: The Brown Widow.
I had seen a large cobweb on some bricks out front of my house the past couple of days as I came home. I figured some member of Theridiidae had moved in. Turns out I was right.
Tonight I remembered to check it out and I managed to find it belonged to a rather large female Brown Widow.
She had two tiny males running around her web. Couldn't get a good shot of them.
These spiders are very timid and are not aggressive, often fleeing if attacked. However, if they do bite it can be painful. Care should always be taken around these spiders.
