I'd say it's a lot more like solving supernatural mysteries than just fight fight fight, which can come as a shock to a lot of D&D regulars but that I actually really enjoy. I mean that's pretty much how it is on the show.
I'd suggest giving it a shot sometime if you have friends irl that love the spn also. I dunno if there are guidebooks easily gotten online or not, I bought the guidethingy from drivethrurpg.com because I wanted to do it right but I slaughter some of the rules I don't like anyway XP
