Spellcasting sprite (Final version)
At long last, I've' finally completed the FF4-inspired sprite of me spellcasting in my rat form. I decided in just a few colors for the robe/cloak. I'm sure the neck looks a smidge too tall.. but isn't that how it generally goes in a JRPG? Odd proportions?

It's not, honestly. There's several things to consider: sprite size/resolution (I've seen some as small as 8x8, some as large as 512x512), complexity (simple as Pac-Man, or stuff like in the Anniversary Edition of Final Fanasy), and number of colors used.
