Here's a really lovely piece made by the most wonderful
.
I absolutely love this commission. The colors are very beautiful and really set a wonderful tone to this image. I do believe that loadedpistol captured Jiao perfectly in this picture. Everything from her serene pose and gorgeous interpretation of her robes. Much to my delight she took an extra effort to embellish the dizi with the image of a dragon along its length. I love how the splash of blue on her necklace, hair clasp and bell add the perfect accent to the composition. She did a fabulous job on her hair, ears and markings. I'm ever so grateful for such a lovely piece.
Aside from being a Shaolin monk, and master of the temple where she teaches. Jiao Ming is also an accomplished dizi player. She began playing it at an early age when she was young, mostly at that time to entertain guests that her father would have over when she lived at home. After being sent to the monastery, she continued to play as a form of meditation to lose herself in the music and as a form of breathing exercise. As the years passed, she would be recognized for her ability to play, and that at times even the lord that she once served under would ask her to play for him at special events. As of late, she tends to play only when relaxing or in the company of her companion, Xia Chang'e who accompanies her on the pipa.
