After the group had roused themselves from their rocky entry into the oasis city of Rabinthe, they made for the prison in the heart of the city. This was done almost entirely in comfort, as they blended in with the normal citizenry immediately. After all, anyone inside the city would have been accounted for by the local security forces posted at the entry points into town. As they reached the prison sector, however, things became a bit less simple, as most normal people had no real interest in that area, steering clear of the no-doubt violent and unsavory fellows that remained within regardless of how well-guarded the area might be.
As they drew close to the structure which was primarily subterranean, things got a bit edgy. The group split up a couple blocks away and agreed to meet near the back of the structure, waving each other off as if headed to different residences across town. Skirra was with Rayce, and Gurta with Asta. It would take them about a half hour to circle the facility without being obvious in doing so, but they had a bit of time still, the night was yet young.
The two walked quietly for a bit before Skirra decided to break the silence, peering over at Rayce who strode casually on with his hat ducked low, likely obscuring his vision, though even without it, he could still sense and smell with the tongue he flicked out from time to time. "Rayce... are you worried this might be a trap...?" Asked the timid coyote.
Rayce slipped his arms back behind his head, looking up to the sky as his hat fell back a bit, letting him see the stars above, occasionally accented with the wisps of mana yet passing throughout the city. "It's always a possibility, I reckon... but Gurta seems confident enough about the job. Sides... it's a quick slip in, retrieve, slip out. If this place is as lax with it's security as it sounds, should be easy as pie."
Skirra was still full of doubt, but Rayce's words were a comfort in some measure all the same. Rayce peered over at her as they walked, "I know you're still new to field work. This makin' ya uneasy?" He asked her curiously.
Skirra's ears flattened back atop her head and she drew the hood at the back of her coat up over them as a means to hide them, though even still her pained sort of expression was a dead giveaway to the experienced salamander. "Look.. ya got me watchin' yer back. Ain't nuthin bad gonna happen so long as I'm here." His voice carrying a supportive weight to it.
Skirra looked over to him, still holding her hood around her head, "Sure, you can say that... but when push comes to shove, who knows what might happen. And what happens if we get split up somehow, huh? You can't always be here, Rayce."
"Well that's why Gurta's been tryin' ta toughen ya up! Yer right... we caint always be there to protect cha, and ya gotta learn a thing or three before ya can handle yerself on yer own. But y'aint gonna learn squat stayin' back home all the time eitha. Just gotta trust that big 'ol pig on thissun. An trust in me too! I ain't exactly a pushova. I gotchur back tonight, Skirra... but that d'own mean I'm gon do all the work. Step up when ya feel ya can. Show that boss a ours whatcha got in ya. Heck, even you migth be a lil surprised~"
She couldn't help but smile a bit at such inspiring words. "If you can have such faith in me... and... if Gurta's counting on me... then I won't let you guys down." Her ears could be seen perking up the hood a bit as they continued which brought a smile to Rayce's usually lazy face as well. "At's the spirit! You can do this Skirra, Gurta 'n me... an Hell, prolly even Asta got the most faith in the world for ya."
Renewed, the two continued on to the meeting place, ducking in quietly behind the shadows of the prison, even in the late night, in a patch of street where not even the wisps of mana would give them away.
"That was ignorant, Gurta. What the fuck were you thinking!?" Yelled the rather frustrated Asta, bringing an elbow down hard on the temple of the last of a group they had come across.
"I was thinking... we didn't need a bunch of witnesses. Those guys had been tailing us since we left Skirra and Rayce. Maybe even before then. Just because they only now decided to jump us doesn't mean I wasn't paying attention, Asta. Don't tell me you, our keen tactical advisor, hadn't noticed that lot."
Asta's jaw dropped a bit at the revelation. She had, indeed, not noticed they were being followed, and certainly not that long. "Then we have to go back and make sure Skirra and Rayce are ok!" She exclaimed, turning and starting back the way they had come. However, Gurta reached out and grabbed her by the elbow, stopping her in her tracks. "No. Rayce is with her... they wouldn't get easily overtaken. All we can do for now is to continue to the agreed location and hope they're there. And, if they're not... THAT'S when we go looking. But we can't be wasting time getting all hot-headed."
Asta tugged her arm free from his grasp and huffed, "Fine. Let's move though. Those idiots already cost us precious time."
"I couldn't agree more" Replied Gurta with a bit of a grin. Then the two moved back on track, at a bit of a heightened pace, remaining wary of any more ambushes like the one they had just encountered. "How many do you think there were in the beginning?" Asked Asta to the boar.
"Well... I never looked back to count... but I'd say ten easy... maybe a dozen." He said with a frown.
His frown was equally met on Asta's face as they picked up their pace a little more, as they both had realized what this had meant. They had only fought six. Any others likely pursued Rayce and Skirra, and the two could not help but worry all the same.
Closing the distance to the meeting point was proving a long trek indeed. One they had not suspected. But they soon arrived at the agreed upon location. Asta let out a signaling call to let Skirra and Rayce know they had arrived, but there was no call returned. She let out a second call and gave it a few more long moments. The two then became quite worried, quickly moving around to the other side of the prison walls only to find one of Rayce's revolvers on the ground. Asta knelt down and grabbed it, worry wracking her heart. The barrel was still warm. If there had been a fight, it had not been long ago. Only at this closer distance, however, could she see the smears of blood across the ground and in the grass at the base of the walls. Gurta's eyes, however, had been on the wall itself where an indentation had formed, approximately above the blood on the ground. One could only imagine what went down, but both confident leaders became quite worried indeed, looking to one another. Asta, still knelt on the ground, looked back at Gurta whose face was darkly stern, "Gurta... what do we do...?"
Gurta's response was simple and without hestiation. "We get them back..."
Drama arises in part three of the Pillars series! Not to mention a bit more bonding with the characters. Hope it wasn't too long or too short for you all. I realize now that this picture was meant for inside the prison, which I really thought I would get to in this part. However, I let myself get carried away with the idea of splitting them up, and even adding the twist! Overall, I really enjoyed writing this one, and I hope you guys liked it too! I may change the pic, I may not... but you'll probably see it for the next chapter regardless. x3 Anyways! Stay tuned for more writing in the days to come! 8D

Dun dun daaahhhh!! Well crafted irony hun~! Our crowd expects that perhaps the group of Skirra and Rayce to be fine given his words, only to, in an unknown fight that we don't even get to see, they are over-taken. Shame on Gurta for not warning them though >.=.< But I am sure... he did it... to see what Rayce and the new girl could manage. Can't wait to see what happens next~!
