So...any Vampire Diaries fans out there looking for a necklace?
I am pleased with how this little experiment turned out. It was inspired by Bonnie's necklace, but is not an exact replica.
This entire pendant is polymer clay. Except for those four tiny glass beads amongst the leaves. I put a lot of effort into painting the center "jewel" to resemble a real one. And then I gave it a super-shiny clear-coat, which contrasts with the matte clear-coat on the metallic gold.

so, interesting note. I've ventured into the resin/mold making world for my Tindome project. It got me to thinking about your ability to sculpt and I thought i'd pass it on.
Michael's has a full on kit for like...$15? I think. Fusionbeads has stuff for coloring it, but really it has a lot to do with what you're making and molds. this for example:

and it's pretty cheap and inexpensive to get started. thought i'd pass that on
