Apparently that cabinet from Canterlot was not a practical joke. It had some kind of spell that made fresh baked goods appear on its shelves when opened. Seemed fantastic enough.

Tumblr has all these Ask- (name of pony here)
With alot of variations of the characters, some funny and some... awkward
Like trollestia, carlestia, hot-blooded-pinkie-pie, doctor whooves, ask discord, ask statue discord,
Ask space luna, gaming luna, and some others and trololol even just ask flutterguy... Basically i ment the MLP:FIM fandom has taken over tumblr in a way of ask and draw answer responses

I think that's the point. Can you imagine the horror and suspense? You'd think that, "Oh, no-one will get hurt. It's not killing them, or harming anyone."
But that's the scary part.. as it creeps up on folks, a peaceful silent invasion, as no-one goes missing.
You see your pal right next to you as you change, becoming ... not you.
He just smiles and watches. With four fateful words, you know that you're stricken with terror and fear. Ya never saw it coming, due to the reasons mentioned previously.
Or some other silly shinanigans. Frankly I love this picture, due to Shiro's talent, and the text-color change. Yeah sometimes it's freaky, but ya gotta admit, that was the original intention, therefore, it is accomplished.

I'm pretty sure that, that is nothing more than a label to slap on folks that enjoy a particular 'brand' of fandom.
