I do feel as though, even though the timer hadn't started, Hiedemann got her winning strike in within the one second provided, even if it was within the final milliseconds of it. However, her form during the actual strike was, in my opinion, quite repulsive, and seemed a last ditch effort to get a strike in, no matter how sloppy it was [which sort of goes against the entire point of fencing, which is striking with finesse], but REGARDLESS, it was a strike she did manage to land. People rationalise the judge's decision to racism and bigotry, which I find a tad ridiculous, but then again, you're going to find people who believe that regardless of the situation. I personally would've renounced the strike and continued the match, but obviously they felt it was necessary to call the match as finished.
Erm... Fencing commentary aside, I rather enjoy this painting. I saw it on the "Recent Submissions" stream, and thought it was a photograph. Very well done. Consider yourself watched. :)

Great drawing study, Ovek. Catches the atmosphere yesterday really well.
I watched this semi-final and I've never seen such an emotional fight and I think this long decision time is something new for the fencing-sport. It seems that the judge's decision was correct, but we're talking about a time of one second for three attempts, counting the two attacks before the timer hits the zero.
Well, I'm fencing too, so I really do understand this feeling when the judges discuss and analyze what's correct and what's not and you'll lose or win because of milliseconds, human failure or technical issues, even if I'm just fencing in the lower amateur-class.

Hey thanks! Been awhile since I've heard from you~ great to see ya.
well, I'm not very into discussing controversies pertaining to the Olympics b/c shiz like this happen occasionally. I was moved by her posture on top the piste looking straight at the scoreboard so I drew it :p
and cool~ fencing that is.
