Most people know this place as the castle (for obvious reasons) but the GAR (Grand Army of the Republic) hall has finally been purchased and is now in the process of being renovated. This curious landmark was built back in 1899 (subject to debate) as a recreation hall and meeting place for Civil War Vets and later was used as a rec hall by the city around the mid 40's before being mothballed for 30 years. Now the castle is set to become the headquarters for Minefield, a graphics design firm associated with Quick-n loans. But get this the following requirements have to be done.
1, a space must be set for a memorial dedicated to Civil War Vets (must be approved by the daughters of the republic who own a share of the building).
2, Some sort of retail must remain on the property at all times (the property was originally an outdoor market and this agreement was made by GAR representatives, Restaurants do count).
3, The building must remain period to the era of which it was built (Modernization is of course allowed but must be approved by the NTFHP).
No wonder why the place remained empty for 30 years!
