Another strong influence when I in and just getting out of college was anime. I soaked it up like a sponge....well as much as I could because there wasn't a whole out yet. Almost nothing was dubbed, synopis sheets are your friend! No ADV, Viz was just getting started and Streamline dubs generally sucked! But never mind once month I showed up for anime club meetings, and every pay day I went over to D&J Hobbies and bought copies of B-Club, Koku-fan, Hobby Japan although I couldn't read a single page of it. The art and photograph was just so cool! At one point I scored some stuff from I guy who had a run a mail order operation and was closing shop. I had a chance to go through his remaining stock and pick up stuff just pennies. Now most of it had been pretty picked over by the time I got to it but that didn't matter. It all looked cool and I wanted it. These are some vacc suits based on some anime I have never heard of, still don't what it is from, but some of the tech was great.

God, yes. I remember being blown away by the original Mobile Suit Gundam back in ’81; I’d never seen anything like it and became an avowed animé fan on the spot. Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Armored Trooper VOTOMS, Genesis Climber Mospeada, Super Dimension Century Orguss—not to mention all the non-mecha shows that left most US television series in the dust.
