Ability: Blaze - Increases Fire-Type Attacks when health is low.
Trademark move: As a Mestre 1° Grau, she is a potent fighter in combining pokemon moves with actual combat. Her signature move is the Dança Da Chama Do Dragão(translates literally to "Dancing Flame Dragon"). It begins with a combined style of the Ginga with Dragon Dance, where she increases her attack and speed in the process. Every move transitions from the ginga, so inbetween all of this she is increasing her power. The move begins with the macaco--a one handed backflip against the ground--which combines with protect. Next she performs Meia Lua De Compasso--a mid leg sweep--which she slaws at the opponent with dragon claw. Finally, she finishes off with the Martello Rotado--a full roundhouse kick using both legs--where she uses flame charge to wreath both of her power legs in fire.(Note: capoeira isn't one of the deadliest martial arts in the world. People have experimented with this in all kinds of shows and there are a lot of fighting styles that can easily counter it, including kung fu, muy thai, and tae kwon do. The addition of pokemon moves -does- raise the threat assessment on her, however.)
Family: She has a father, whom she hasn't seen in years. Her mestre is more of a father figure for her and the Rockets her surrogate family. Her best friends--Erik, Finn and the Wereabsol we haven't named yet--mean the world to her.
Background: She'd grown up in Viridian City with her mom and dad, but her mother caught a flu virus and died, leaving her with just her dad. While her dad worked two jobs to take care of both of them, Maya grew rebellious, angry and unable to communicate with her father. She was put into Capoeira lessons to teach her discipline, which seemed to work. Soon enough, however, his dad began noticing that she was stealing and was soon on police records. Little did he realize that she'd caught the attention of Team Rocket and was adopted into the syndicate when she was 15. Up in the attic were three years of loot she'd been stealing. He did the responsible thing by turning her but she escaped, running away back to her surrogate family. She continued seeing her Mestre, who was aware but did not scold her for her bad decisions.
For five years now, Maya has been under team rocket's rule and she has always done her best to please them and her boss, Giovanni. Lately, however, her friends have been bringing up that perhaps they were only tools to Giovanni's agenda. Finn, after all, had never returned from his escape after the experimentation and no one seemed to care. Over the years, she herself had found herself growing weary of this lifestyle. It was fun for a while, but she knew they'd eventually get caught. Regardless, she defended Team Rocket's decisions and she decided for the three of them to volunteer for the werepokemon openings in the hopes of getting him back and to get even with the weres who captured him.
Personality: Naive but lonely. Her cheerful, optimistic attitude makes her welcome company to her friends with a curiosity that makes her go out and try new things. Though she may not always fully believe in her friends, she is loyal enough to defend their honor, regardless. Her faith in her surrogate family is what gives her the strength to protect them and fight for them when necessary, putting her life before others. She would willingly take a bullet for someone she cared about, sacrificing herself so that they could live. However, she is also insecure and clingy, needing reassurance and emotional support from her mestre. This may have to do with the lack of a sympathetic maternal presence in her childhood and a father who overasserted his role as being both a father and a mother. She has a child-like nature for looking up for people but not for herself. Her continued need to do better in Capoeira, for instance, is out of need to impress her Mestre.
