Submission for <a href="http://lonedirewolfess.deviantart.c.....ess's Art Contest</a>. Won it, too! :D
Moonkai & Revis, father & son.
Moonkai, a powerful, confident, benevolent alpha, trots past a juvenile Revis, who jumps back in the uneasy, self-conscious manner of a teenage son not quite certain where he stands with his dad. (Or maybe he's just startled. But I got the impression from DireWolf's gallery that Revis' gotten into more than his fair share of trouble, so I figured a certain uneasiness around the pack leader - even when said leader's his father - wouldn't be too off the mark...) It's setup is reminiscent of a fractured Yin-Yang, emphasizing the lack of an easy balance between these two.
Or maybe it's just a nice colory picture of winged wolves. Don't ask me, I failed symbology*.
I debated adding a digital background to this, to make it a bit more clear that both Moonkai & Revis are on the ground and that Revis is leaping up (with the aid of his wings - kind of like birds do, when you startle them and they take flight without turning their backs on you...), but it seemed to take away from the two, so I left it as-is.
Prismas on some nameless but sturdy smooth-surfaced art paper I unearthed from deep in my desk drawer. Had all sorts of fun scrawling this: for inspiration, as well as more realistic poses, I went to the beach and stalked my parents' dog, as well as countless others frolicking amongst the waves. The contest fell, quite fortuitously, after Otakon, and thus the ink and coloring jobs benefitted greatly from all the new tips and tricks I picked up from those late-night art parties and commissions work in Artists Alley.
* "Symbology?....I think the word you're looking for is Symbolism. Symbolism." ...yes, I know. ^_-
