I have a friend who loves penguins. She thinks they're adorable, and collects little penguin figurines. She even had a penguin wedding cake topper. I have another friend who adores alligators for some reason. She thinks they're so fun, and has several stuffed ones. Well, I've loved big cats for most of my life, but never really had a single species I liked more than the rest. Now, I find that I love bison, especially the white ones. They're my new favorite animal, and I have no idea why.
I'm developing a new furry character that's a white bison named Skyriver, but this isn't specifically that character. I just wanted to have a tiny buffalo (bison) so I sculpted it and painted it. I wanted it to have the feel of a buffalo, the shape and the bulk. While this little guy is about 2 inches long and an inch and a half tall, he really does feel right. I don't know if I'd ever go so far as to name it my totem animal, but I do feel some kind of calledness when I look at this little guy as he thunders across my desk.
So tell me what you think of totem animals. Do you have one? How did you know? I'm curious. Call it a social survey.

I had a beta named Mach Schnell who was close to four years old when he finally died. He was a freaking horse of a fish, too. Huge. Ate everything. Once he even jumped out of the water to snatch a little moth that had hovered too close! He also once tried to live the life of a human and leaped from his tank. Fortunately I found him while he was still flopping, and he lived a long full life. :)
