In another world, there exists alternate versions of ourselves. Some are people we dream of becoming. Others are what we fear of becoming. This particular world is neither of those (necessarily). The world you’re about to enter is a fun filled world where the children’s card game of Duel Monsters is a hell lot more popular than anything else in the world. A place where big hair actually means that you’re important and short hair means that you can only hope to cheer in the backgrounds. This is… sort of that world.
Welcome to the Duel Monster’s Theme Park, known as Duel World
A happy place to be for those that love to Duel, or just have fun in the sun. Yes, this immense theme park houses all forms of attractions based on the popular children’s card game, Duel Monsters. Humans and Furs of all origins can enjoy anything and everything that is imaginable in a happy. fun, and (usually) safe environments that make up Duel World.
For this particular set of stories, we turn our sights toward the Umi (or Ocean Based) section of the Theme Park. For two dueling teams are about to meet for the first time in this world. Team Nature’s Fury and Team Desert Storm.
The five members of Team Nature’s Fury and their (shall we say) “pets” were exiting the monorail as a group. Each dressed accordingly to their own unique personalities. The five teens use their “unique” dueling styles to perform in concerts, but right now they’re on summer vacation and loving every minute of it. They decided to spend this week in the Duel Park.
First up (as always) would be Lucas. Messy brunet hair all the time, but it was slightly neater than usual due to the sunglasses that rested on his head. He was wearing a black shirt and a pair of black trunks with a crescent moon on the right leg. Floating over his shoulder was the spirit of his “pet” grey wolf, Gabu. The two of them were ready to go wild at the water park. Gabu more so than Lucas, because Lucas always kept this calm and collective aura about him.
In reverse was Sora, a tomboy who constantly kept her short brown hair under either a bandana (or a helmet for when she’s riding her skateboard). Today was no exception, even if she was wearing this one piece that proved undeniably she was a young (undeveloped) female. She had a humongous water pistol and she wasn’t afraid to use it until security would escorted her out of the park. The spirit of her eagle, Angel, would stop her before things got too far, but not before the damage was done.
Behind them was the blond headed Leo and his spirit, Pepper the okapi. The two of them shared the similar personality traits, as they both like to blend in with the background. Leo had his nose stuck in his book as he quietly walked behind the first two. Leo was wearing a white shirt, as he didn’t want to go swimming at the water park, but fully expected his friends to… “invite” him in the water anyway.
Dead last was the platinum blond Russian, Peter, and his nameless polar bear spirit, Comrade. Both of them were Giants compared to any one of their companions, but he was normally a gentle giant. You know, the strong silent type. One could easily tell that Peter hadn’t been in the sun all summer long. He had a perfect tan-less body, which really worked out for him as he didn’t have a shirt on, but did have a navy blue and white pair of trunks. He’s also sweating like a pig as he’s still not used to such hot days. Even under that open beach umbrella he was carrying, he might need a few more layers of sun block.
“This is going to be so radical,” the normally silent and seemingly uncaring Michael, could not contain his excitement for coming to the Umi section of the park. Neither could his dolphin spirit Splash. The two of them were leading the group today, “I heard that they’ve got these radical surf boards that let you look like any radical Duel Monster and this radical…{As you can tell, “Radical” is his favorite adjective to use. We can’t stop him and his team is just used to it by now. So for now let’s skip what “conversation” they’re having for now and explain these two.}
Michael is most certainly a surfer type, but his hair is completely buzzed down to the nubs. He NORMALLY doesn’t speak unless spoken to or if he wishes to put in his words of wisdom, but he loves to swim and sometimes surfs before the school days starts. He normally puts off a vibe of boredom, but today he’s like a kid in a sugar factory. Splash, well… is a dolphin. When aren’t they hyperactive, like that?
“And did I mention the radical-”
“Yes! For the love of all that is not far out, YES! I know that you’re excited about going to the water park,” Sora finally snapped, pointing her watergun at her friend, “but if you don’t shut up about it then I’m going to use this baby to fill that mouth of yours until your head pops like a balloon at one of those carnival games!”
“Woah, chill out dudette,” Michael raised his hands defensively, “I’m zipp’n my lip.”
“That was a little harsh,” Angel floated down, “even for you.”
“True,” Sora looked at her pet, “but effective.”
“I don’t think I ever want to see Sora angry again,” Pepper was finally able to speak after a moment.
“Me too,” Leo nodded in agreement, noticing Peter shaking, “Just look at poor Peter. He’s so scared, that he’s shaking.”
“No, he’s exhausted from this heat,” Comrade, the polar bear sighed a moment. (Being in his spirit form, made it so that he wouldn’t be affected by temperatures, or scare any of the other guests from seeing a wild polar bear).
“Hurry,” Peter (was also a man of few words, but not that few) pushed for the group to keep moving.
“You know what,” Lucas took a look at the attractions on the map he carried, “we could take Peter to the Umiiruka area instead,”
“That really cold section,” Sora asked, while looking at her squirt gun, “I’ll pass.”
“Same here,” Leo and Pepper agreed in perfect tune.
“Fine,” Lucas sighed to himself, “While you guys have fun in the sun around here, I’ll take Peter to Umiiruka for the day.”
Peter, despite the heat stroke he may or may not be having, was loving this idea. His face didn’t show it though. Sora gave Peter a quick knowing nod, which let Peter know that it wasn’t a hallucination. He’d be going alone with Lucas (well Lucas and their spirit partners, but let’s allow Peter to dream, shall we?) Peter handed the umbrella to Leo as his answer.
“Then it’s Righteously agreed,” Michael bobbed his head at the decision.
“Okay, slowpokes,” Splash flipped in the air, “to the pool!”
“Splash does know that the pool water’s chlorinated, right,” Sora asked her partner. Angel just “perched” on Sora’s shoulder and shrugged her wings.
At another section of the Monorail System were the three members of the group Team Desert Storm. This was the first vacation that they’ve ever had as well. Their dueling manager booked them for the weekend, but they knew it wasn’t going to be a normal vacation. Surly, a place called “Duel World” had to be some kind of training camp. When they saw the park, well… they figured that it wasn’t going to be that bad.
“Come on! Hurry up Ariel,” Cody Carmel, the youngest member of Team Desert Storm, pulled at his teammate’s arm towards the water parks. Cody is a fourteen year old boy with goggles in his short black hair. His bathing suit depicted stones and plant life. He looked a little silly having to wear floaties on his arms and had a glob of sunscreen resting like paint on his nose.
“What’s the big deal about going to a water park,” asked Ariel Morgan, a sixteen year old with a somewhat short hair style herself. The only thing truly odd about it was the fact that it was naturally a light blue. She’s currently wearing a two piece that is well suited for a woman of her age. Although she also has a long flowing skirt flowing down her legs to her ankles. Ironically, this is how she’s normally dressed to begin with.
“Sor-ry that we didn’t live most of our lives under the sea like some people,” the fifteen year old Dan Cook (no relation) shrugged a bit as he was carrying most of his team’s gear over his shoulders. Dan’s auburn hair’s style was longer than both of his team mates, but not something you wouldn’t see on the average surfer (despite having no experience to do so). His naturally darker skin didn’t require any sun screen, but he daubed some on just in case. His bathing suit had a glowing yellow sun on the front and the back.
“Yeah, the two of us spent our entire lives out in the desert,” Cody smiled, “this may be my only chance to ever go swimming!”
“You’ve been swimming before,” Ariel pointed out.
“Yeah, back when you were trying to kill us,” Dan joked, the three of them laughed at the memories of back when they were all on different sides of conflicts. Ariel had been their enemy on a much different, darker Duel Team, known as the Oceanoids, “but this time it will be for fun, you know?”
“I guess a break from the desert life wouldn’t be so bad,” Ariel sighed, missing her sisters, of whom were still with the Oceanoids.
“So, what do you guys want to do first,” Dan looked around the Umi Park. Even with all these Water Attributed monster based attractions, Dan really didn't feel like getting wet. If it were up to him he’d just spend the whole day laying out in the sun, thinking of new recipes to try. (Conveniently for his name, this particular duelist wants to be a cook.)
“I’m sure Cody wants to go to the wave pool,” Ariel took out the map, “I know it’s one of the best ways to learn how to swim.”
“Sweet,” Cody grinned as he cheered to himself, before the group made their way to one of the gigantic wave pools.
