Totally not furry related but hey... it's a side of me that I don't get to post on here very much. For some may know that... I LOVE to bake and cook. My job in college was actually at a local bakery and I do it quite a bit in my free time. Have been into it since I was a mid-teen (I'm almost 28 now)... so I like to play around and challenge myself. It's relaxing.
Well this was for a friend's 30th birthday. His wife wanted to surprise him and when I was over babysitting their new baby, she mentioned that she was looking to try and throw him something... and thought maybe a Doctor Who cake would be suitable. We are all super geeks so hands down I was for it (though for them it really could have been anything... I'm still trying to plan a cake for their son for next year and he's only six months old... I'm planning early :P).
I asked her what flavor she wanted... and she thought maybe mocha since he's not a huge chocolate eater so I surprised them both with a little twist (since a Tardis is bigger on the inside). I made a mocha (brown) and cinnamon/vanilla (white) checker board cake. There were three layers... each hand cut from a 9 x 13, brushed with dark coffee, and sandwiched with homemade swiss buttercream frosting. So if anyone was wondering how to make a checker board cake... this is how.
