An illustration for a short story that stems off of the Ventus Project.
Roman (hiding in the log), at the peak of the story, is forced to go on the run with the other men in his platoon, after their commanding officer is accused of insubordination, conspiracy against higher powers, and just generally being a traitor, and executed. The soldiers are hunted down by general cavalry officers and picked off one by one. Roman, who thinks on his feet, finds several ways to elude the officers' mastiffs until he can make a getaway.
It looks a little funky in the middle because I didn't give myself enough room on the paper, so this is two separate drawings combined. I intend to fix it up a bit later.
Mechanical pencil on...weird paper. I'm not sure what it is. Sketchbook.

I use lead holders (asdfghjkl<3<3) which is very similar to a mechanical pencil. You do still have to sharpen it with a tiny sharpener (that has a hole opening made for the lead for perfect, precise sharpening and it's small enough to hang from a keychain, literally smaller than a SD memory card and about as thin), but the advantage to them is that you don't have to shave through both lead and wood- you can focus entirely on making the lead come to a point and thus won't break/waste your pencil lead. The lead holder itself is a plastic "mechanical pencil". It doesn't have an eraser though. You can buy any lead but my favorite use for it is definitely for non-photo blue!
You know, I think Jen has one of those blue ones (her sharpener for it is rather large, and I never actually knew what it was till she explained it to me) so I do know what your talking about....o^o i must invest in one of these magnificent tools someday D8
XD Though I really have no problem with the mechanical pencil, but hey, I'm always into getting new toys 8D
