Tzar the Paladin
This is a birthday gift art/part-commission/collaboration for
razenhashikado to celebrate his birthday/hatchday
This shows Tzar the dragon/lizard paladin (or draconic knight), but...oh well, forgot his biography because it's in Razen's world, lol!
Anyway, since it's a collab:
I sketched the character, with a random sample armor. He changed the armor into better one using lineart. I then traced with lineart for better resolution. And then, he proposed the colors for me (two color versions: paladin for good, and dark knight for evil). First I drew the background before adding a light source--sunset. I added shadings and highlights on the background, and then the character. I edited, corrected and finished the details around.

This may actually bethe FIRST TIME your shading/lighting is really good. You have used one single, yet very weak, light source from the outside... the sun reaching through the mist and rain and hitting the castle room.
Why does THIS actually work well? Because your lighting hits the body and room only where it can!!!!
Yepp. Some parts are really dark, some are less dark. But it all fits and the effect is increased by the good shading on the floor.
I can see that you worked long on this and listened to advise. Fine. ^^

Oh, hey... but don't you think that you can stop learning and practising now, just because of ONE rather nice artwork!
The character in this picture is still pretty "boring", because of the stance... like a statue. Ok, it's also very restful on the other hand... but I'm sure you could've done more to make the character interesting, as well.
So far, I was only focusing on the SHADING in this artwork!
Addition:
The shade cast by the character should be a bit darker than the shades of the windows.

I'm not here to compare this one to other artworks (or to my own)... I just wasn't paying attention the pose, 'cause it really does not appeal to me. ^^ "
Also, I wasn't even beginning to point out the flaws (the character is way too huge compared to the room; the character is too bulky; the hands are horrible mutilated; etc.)... *grins*
I was merely focusing on the scene and background, which is really good. ^__^
I'm sure that the restful, less dynamic pose is fitting to the heavy armored character... but nevertheless, he's just stading there.
Such as:
"Hm. What am I supposed to do today? How did I even get here?! Oh... maybe I should take a walk. Naah... I just stand here. Yepp, that's what I'm going to do."
*sarcastic joke, no offence*

Oh, and besides... I'm sure you like it and I don't want to spoil your joy here.
But if you really, REALLY look into yourself... you'll recognize one thing: YOU could've drawn this all by yourself easily. So why ask for such a thing?
The character really looks like one of YOUR typical drawings. That's not a bad thing, not at all... but Kevin's strenght is drawing backgrounds (and not characters; and after all you had to help a lot)... so I would've asked for a cool background. A landscape of your world.
That would've been unique.

Well, for me I approve that it's only a "Character sheet" of Razen's new character, Tzar, (I proposed the different "Draconian" names).
I think that's true about "umbra" shadow casts. Nearer the object, the darker its shadows; but going farther will decrease its visibility.
Thank you ^^
