I had a presentation to give infront of my co-workers, my boss, his boss and other department members.
And talking in front of people is really frightening for me.
I went in trying to be confident and was going along okay. I tried to say a joke and no one laughed, I got really embarrassed and while I was pacing I dropped my papers. Scrambling to pick them up, no one said anything but I could hear some smirks.
I tried another joke and still not one person laughed, and I really wanted to not exist. I'm not a funny person, I have nothing to offer thats remotely important.
Twrap it up, I dropped my papers twice more and gave up trying to make anyone smile after a thrid joke was met with silence. It was a rough day and I made a fool of myself and I just wish I could have a sense of humor, it might have helped me.

No one is really prepared for this sort of thing. Especially if it don't receive at least a basic teaching about the psychology.
